The Department of Facilities & Fleet Management’s Buildings and Grounds Division is a fast-paced, dynamic operation filled with passionate, skilled individuals.
Help us maintain the cleanliness of County facilities and their interior and exterior beauty by performing skilled custodial tasks while providing excellent customer service to County residents and employees. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 4 PM to Midnight. However, this position is considered essential. Flexibility is required, as work location, days, and hours may be adjusted based on operational needs. This position may require you to work some weekends.
About This Role:
The Custodian position performs routine custodial work in the care and cleanliness of all County buildings and performs semi-skilled custodial services and heavy manual labor.
Some knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, chemicals, and equipment; some knowledge of safety and effective use of chemicals; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others.
Custodian Duties include the following:
Collecting and removing all trash; replacing all can liners.
Disinfect and clean toilets, sinks, and restock all paper and soap dispensers!
Vacuuming carpet areas and spot cleaning as needed
High and low dusting through
Dust, mop, and damp mop all hard surface floors.
Operates all different types of floors and carpet machines.
Stripping and waxing tile floors.
Clean mirrors, windows, and window blinds
Disinfect and clean holding cells.
Arrange rooms, set up furniture, and perform related tasks for special events.
Prepare a daily list of supplies that are needed for each day
Report any problem within your work-assignment areas.
Dusts and/or polishes chairs, tables, shelves, and other furniture or equipment.
Empty and remove all recyclables from the various labeled containers.
Performing routine maintenance of custodial equipment, such as belt or bag preplacement, emptying collection bags, cleaning, and providing proper storage of equipment.
Locks and unlocks, building doors and windows.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Minimum Requirements:
8th grade education and 0-12 months of related experience as a custodian for commercial buildings.
Preferences:
- Expert knowledge of/experience with floor maintenance techniques, to include equipment used in the process. (Floor Scrubbers and buffers as well as carpet extraction machines)
- Practical experience using a chemical dispensing system
- Expert knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a custodian for commercial buildings.
Special Requirements:
- Must pass a pre-employment physical exam.
- Have a valid Driver’s License.
- Background Checks, which may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Check, Credit History Check, Education Verification Check, License Verification Check, and/or Finger printing.
Work Schedule:
37.5 hours – 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Monday through Friday. This position is considered essential and is expected to work during County Closures. Flexibility is required, as work location, days, and hours may be adjusted based on operational needs. This position may require you to work some weekends. This position is considered an Essential Employee and, therefore, will be required to work mandatory extra hours during County emergencies.
Hiring Salary Range:
$17.99 to $28.11
