The Prince William County Police Department is seeking a skilled, motivated individual for the Communications Liaison role. This position primarily serves in an administrative support capacity within the Communications & Public Information Section of the Office of Communications and Engagement, reporting directly to the Chief of Staff for the Chief of Police.
About This Role:
The Prince William County Police Department seeks a communications professional to support the agency’s evolving customer service and communication needs, serving as a direct link between our community and law enforcement.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Providing and supporting customer service needs
- Being an effective communicator through email, social media messaging, and over the phone
- Maintaining, updating, and auditing the police department website and internal SharePoint site
- Providing assistance and information to our residents and guidance to other county agencies
- Putting together an internal newsletter for the agency and other publications as needed
- Supporting office staff as needed in covering photography and videography needs
- Attending and participating in department, county, and community events
- Other duties as assigned in support of the office and the department’s mission
The position supports the department’s communications and public information efforts through clear speaking, writing, social media, and community outreach. This position will work directly with our community, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
The position requires the ability to work in a flexible, non-traditional work schedule to support a law enforcement agency that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. Incumbent may need to attend and/or participate in events scheduled during weekdays, evenings, and weekends. May be subject to call-out or required to work beyond the typical work schedule as operational needs arise. Incumbent is issued a department cell phone, will have access to a county vehicle if needed, and is eligible for operation need pay.

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 4 years of experience in public information or administration, community services or engagement, or a related area.
Preferences:
- Experience in a government or professional workplace environment involving public information and/or community engagement services.
- Experience using major social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube).
- Experience in photography/videography.
- Experience working with websites and SharePoint.
- Experience in a customer service-driven environment.
- Experience highlighting internal content and accomplishments for publications.
Work Schedule:
This is an exempt status position. Teleworking option may be available once deemed applicable by the supervisor. Work schedule typically follows Monday-Friday within normal County operating hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and may include the need for flexibility for events or other department needs.

Starting Salary Range: $78,971.58 - $92, 907.75
