Parks and Recreation is seeking seasonal Parks and Recreation Aides to assist staff with organizing, promoting, and conducting a wide variety of specialized recreation programs and activities at the neighborhood centers this summer.


Essential Duties

  • Assists supervisory staff with organizing, promoting and conducting diversified recreation activities.
  • Inspects facilities and equipment, reporting safety concerns always focusing on safety.
  • Assists participants in the instruction of recreation activities.
  • Responsible for the general supervision of recreation activities in Centers, Nature Center, gymnasiums and City Parks.
  • Assesses and responds to emergency situations in accordance with City policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates good public relations when dealing with participants, the general public and other city employees. While positively encouraging participants' participation of offered programs.
  • Assists with related program area documentation, to include office responsibilities, attendance records, scheduling of transportation, minor purchasing, supplies, telephoning, coordination of events, and other duties as assigned.
  • Issues equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with chaperoning of trips and other group activities.
  • Assists in developing schedules for activities and special events.
  • Plans and implements planned programs for the centers and other programs areas.
  • Assists in organizing and conducting recreational camps.
  • Prepares and serves snacks and food.
  • Performs janitorial/custodial services, as needed.
  • Creates and maintains a positive, learning environment while enforcing all P&R rules and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES WHEN ASSIGNED TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER

Assists with special projects, events and programs as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

Completion of High School/GED.

Additional Requirements

CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • CPR/General First-Aid Certification required within 6 months of hire.
Must complete relevant background checks

Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work evenings and some weekends
